Direct limit systems, generalized fractions and complexes of Cousin type (Q1110576)

The authors provide a unified and simplified approach to several recent results concerning modules of generalized fractions over a commutative ring, as defined by \textit{R. Y. Sharp} and \textit{H. Zakeri} [Mathematika 29, 32-41 (1982; Zbl 0497.13006)]. For example, they offer a conceptual proof of the result of \textit{M. A. Hamieh} and \textit{H. Zakeri} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 33, 237-244 (1986; Zbl 0599.13014)] that the denominator systems of \textit{M. Kersken} [Math. Z. 182, 389-402 (1983; Zbl 0489.13006)] are, essentially, generalized fractions.
