Local index theorem for families (Q1110885)

The purpose of the paper under review is to give an alternative proof of the local index theorem for families of elliptic operators. After deriving some curvature identities for connections on fiber bundles, the author gives a precise formulation of the theorem using the superconnection formalism due to D. Quillen and J.-M. Bismut. The final proof of the theorem uses some \(\epsilon\)-rescaling arguments due to E. Getzler.
