A Monte Carlo electromagnetic cascade shower simulation code EGS4 is described. The problem of generating random numbers for Monte Carlo transport codes is discussed. The authors compare the original EGS4 code with the DYNIX environment, and timing on Sequent B21 and S27 systems is included. Vector processing versus parallel processing is compared from the point of view of fine-grain approach.
