The recovery of incomplete information in an uncontrolled vocabulary system by the use of a search oriented thesaurus is formulated on the basis of multivalued logical inference. The method consists of two parts: to obtain several inference results for a given pair of a document and a keyword, and to aggregate them by material implication as well as possibility implication (newly introduced). Significantly, the latter leads to less influence of meaningless evidence than the former.
