It is shown that the family of symmetric designs with parameters \((n^ 3+n+1,n^ 2+1,n)\) where both n-1 and \(n^ 2-n+1\) are prime powers, constructed by \textit{S. S. Shrikhande} and \textit{N. M. Singhi} [Util. Math. 8, 187-192 (1975; Zbl 0323.05010)] and also \textit{D. P. Rajkundlia} [Discrete Math. 44, 61-96 (1983; Zbl 0518.05021)], is a consequence of a well-known cyclotomic formula.
