It often results in a problem of eigenvalues of a non-symmetric matrix to solve the vibration and stability of a nonconservative structural system, which would cause many difficulties in numerical calculations. In the present paper, a variational principle with an additional condition for a nonconservative two-degree-of-freedom system is proposed, based on which an iterative procedure is formed. The method is to transform a nonconservative problem into a series of conservative ones. The convergence characters of the method are analyzed and numerical results are given.
