A numerical study is made of a quasi-one-dimensional nonstationary problem of acceleration of a body in a tube of a lengthwise variable profile as a result of gas compression by a piston. The method of characteristics, used for numerical integration, makes it possible to trace accurately the front of the discontinuity and obtain a reliable wave pattern of the gas flow.
