The almost periodic compactification and the Bohr compactification of semitopological semigroups are left adjoints of the respective inclusion functors; there is no category theoretical reason for these functors to preserve even finite products. However, using the continuity of multiplication in the compactifications, the authors give elementary arguments that these functors preserve products and investigate how their methods extend to prove that certain other compactification functors preserve finite products if certain special factors are involved.
