On the \(C^{\infty}\)-well-posedness of Goursat problems (Q1113014)

The author considers the Goursat or characteristic initial value problems in \({\mathbb{R}}^{n+1}(n>1)\) for a differential operator \(P=p(t,x,y;\quad D_ t,D_ x,D_ y)\) where \((t,x,y)=(t,x,y_ 1,...,y_{n-1})\) and p is a polynomial p(t,x,y; \(\tau\),\(\xi\),\(\eta)\) with \(C^{\infty}({\mathbb{R}}^{n+1})\) coefficients. While many systematic results are known for operators with real analytic coefficients, only a few exists when the coefficients are only \(C^{\infty}\). The paper presents one such case.
