The authors describe an algorithm for the Monte Carlo simulation of neutron diffusion that utilizes a process of parallel implementation on a computer of SIMD architecture (single instruction multiple data). The method introduced in a previous paper by the second author [Comput. Phys. Commun. 37, 295-301 (1985)] is extended from two to three dimensions and several other improvements are provided. The experiments are carried out on the ICL DAP (distributed array processor) computer. Comparisons with the UKAEA (United Kindom atomic energy agency) program MONK are presented and the results, which agree numerically within the statistical uncertainty, exhibit the better efficiency of the parallel implementation in terms of computational time.
