In order to avoid the ``crowding phenomenon'' in numerical conformal mapping, the authors propose to approximate the conformal module m(Q) of a long quadrilateral Q by subdivision into two quadrilaterals \(Q_ 1\), \(Q_ 2\). They give an estimate for \(0\leq m(Q)-[m(Q_ 1)+m(Q_ 2)]\) in terms of the geometry of Q and present an example. This is a preliminary report without proofs.
