A multistage multiproduct sequence selection problem is modeled and analyzed. This model allows one to obtain the optimal machine requirements for each machine station and each product type and presents the optimal product sequence, using algorithms developed in this paper. The model could also be used as a decision support module in an expert system for process planning.
