The Richardson deferred approach to the limit for finding accurate eigenvalues of second order differential equations using finite difference techniques is studied using two problems. Both symmetrical and asymmetrical finite difference expressions are explored and the conclusion is that the Richardson approach is most efficient when used with the simplest symmetrical expression.
