Natural frequency expressions are derived in the form of determinants for vibrating sandwich panels (plates) having directionally reinforced laminations. The mathematical model is based upon small strain elasticity theory. The derivation assumes the presence of an energy functional which is minimized according to the precepts of the calculus of variations. The expression so derived for the sandwich plate with orthotropic facings is remarkably simple and suitable for practical usage.
