The authors extend the power method to its block form for use in the block eigenvalue and the associated block eigenvectors of non-symmetric matrices. Algorithms for finding the largest solvent of a monic matrix polynomial are given. These are extended to cover general classes of matrix polynomials. Illustrative examples are also given. Computational complexity and numerical stability are not investigated.
