Microcomputers are increasingly employed in modelling and, with their growth in usage, new versions of well-known simulation languages have been developed for small computers. However, the use of third-generation programming languages in simulation abides. A pivotal area in terms of machine performance in modellig continuous, nonlinear systems is efficiency in auxiliary functions for table look-up. Here, benchmark models written in five languages are discussed representing translation/runtime performance using contrasting algorithmic styles described earlier.
