Let X be a smooth complex projective variety and let \(D\subset X\) be a divisor with normal crossings. The pair (X,D) is said to be a ``logarithmic Fano manifold'' if the logarithmic canonical bundle \(K_ X+D\) is negative. It is shown that a logarithmic Fano manifold is simply connected.
