A reduction method of the general model of 2-D linear systems with variable coefficients to equivalent 1-D model with variable structure and coefficients is presented. A new notion of the straight line reachability for general model of 2-D linear systems with variable coefficients is introduced. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the straight line reachability of the general model are established. A relationship between the straight line reachability and the local reachability of the general model is discussed.
