The problem of round-off error propagation in fixed-point arithmetic is studied. After considering the probabilistic model for the fixed-point representation, the evaluation of the mean value and standard deviation for the absolute error of the elementary arithmetic operators is presented. The results obtained are then implemented to find statistical estimates of the error in computing the inner product and to determine the statistical residual part of an algebraic equation and system of linear equations.
