By Euler in time and second order central differencing in space the authors discretize the nonlinear parabolic equation \(u_ t=1/(N+1)(u^{N+1})_{xx}+u(1-u)\) where the exponent N is equal to 0 or to 1. (Notice, please, the misprint in formula (1) of their paper.) They investigate the resulting discrete model for solutions of period 2 in space and for solutions of period 1 in space, 2 in time, and discuss their stability properties.
