The purpose of the present paper is to determine the mod 2 cohomology algebra of the general linear group \(GL_ 4=GL(4,Z_ 2)\) over the prime field \(Z_ 2\) of two elements. The main tools are the cohomology of its Sylow 2-subgroup \(GL_{4,2}\) and the modular invariant theory for two sets of variables.
