The author gives a general comparison theorem for discrete inequalities which can be used as a tool in the theory of discrete dynamical systems, convergence of iterative methods and the convergence of finite difference methods for solving problems for ordinary and partial differential equations. Some special cases of the main theorem and their applications to error estimations of approximate solutions to discrete equations are also given.
