\textit{S. J. Orfanidis} [ibid. 97, 393-416 (1983; Zbl 0549.93068)] stated that stabilizability and detectability are sufficient conditions for the existence of a positive definite equilibrium solution to autonomous and periodic Riccati equations. By indicating to a counterexample the author proves both assertions to be false.
