The author derives expressions for the eigenvalues of a certain infinite system of linear equations in Hilbert space which may depend nonlinearly on the eigenvalue parameter. Sufficient conditions are established for the corresponding eigenfunctions to form a Riesz basis. Results are applied to a system of linear algebraic equations equivalent to a certain two point boundary value problem.
