A \(\lambda\)-arc in a 2-(v,k,\(\lambda)\) design D is a non-empty subset of points which meets every block in either 0 or \(\lambda\) points. Thus, D induces a 2-design on a given \(\lambda\)-arc. The author investigates the use of \(\lambda\)-arcs for constructing symmetric 2-designs given that the design induced on a \(\lambda\)-arc is either a projective, affine or inversive plane.
