Feedback control with time-delay is employed to minimize the maximum deflection of a beam subjected to impulsive and/or short-time loads. The control is taken in the form of proportional or derivative feedback. It is shown that for this type of problem feedback control with time-delay can be effectively used. As the control needs to be applied for a finite time only, the stability of the system is not affected. The results are illustrated with two numerical examples in which the behavior of the beam under time-delayed feedback control is studied and the amount of control force spent in reducing its deflection is determined.
