The percolation of water through dry soils as it spreads along an impervious stratum or clay deposit of low permeability has to be considered in studying problems of water loss from newly built canals and perched water table formation in connection with crop irrigation, in planning engineering development projects and in predicting the water table elevation around buildings and structures, whether existing or under construction, civil or industrial, as well as in a number of related situations.
