The main result is a new functional equation, which couples the nonzero eigenvalue of the iteration matrix of the unsymmetric successive overrelaxation method with the eigenvalues of the associated block Jacobi matrix. This result serves to generalize and unify all the recent results of the SSOR and USSOR iterative methods applied to a block p-cyclic matrix.
