The authors continue [see Boll. Unione Mat. Ital., VI. Ser., B 5, 441-464 (1986; Zbl 0609.73001)] their study of the foundations of thermodynamics; their starting assumptions are two principles written (without the use of the concepts of internal energy and entropy) as integral relations valid on closed processes. With reference to recent proposals for changes in the classical form of those principles (for instance, through the introduction of a term representing interstitial working in the first principle), the authors show that such changes are needed at most in one of the two principles and not at all for the class of simple materials.
