The authors consider a cell population model involving ``impulsive'' partial differential equations -- essentially the McKendrick-Von Foerster model -- and investigate the existence of solutions. By showing that the related operator generates a strongly continuous semigroup the existence of solutions under certain conditions is established. An approximation to the solution of a relatively simple special case is also provided.
