The author shows that there is a close connection between the transition from knots to unlinks, which marks the limit for the onset of global chaos in the sense of classical mechanics. This limit corresponds to a Hausdorff dimension equal to the subtle mean. This confirms a previous result based on the so-called golden mean theorem.
