    Given the thermospheric characteristics, one can formulate the main requirements that must be satisfied by a mathematical model of the thermosphere. 1. Global (three-dimensional) approach to the description of spatial variation of the thermospheric parameters, simultaneously encompassing high, medium, and equatorial latitudes. 2. Simultaneous and comprehensive description of the main structural parameters of the thermosphere: the distribution of the gaseous composition, the wind field, and the heat budget, i.e., self-consistent description of the thermospheric parameters. 3. Allowance for the nonstationarity of the processes in the Earth's upper atmosphere. 4. Adequate representation of the effect, on the upper atmosphere, of short-wave solar radiation and the high-latitude momentum and energy source associated with the dissipation of electric field energy of magnetospheric origin. In this article, we propose one of the possible model descriptions of the thermosphere, and discuss the construction of a global thermospheric model that satisfies the above requirements.
