In the paper under review elliptic-parabolic equations are degenerate linear elliptic equations with variable coefficients. The author extends existence and uniqueness results of \textit{G. Fichera} [Atti Accad. Naz. Lincei, Mem. Cl. Sci. Fis Mat. Nat., Sez. I, VIII. Ser. 5, 3--30 (1956; Zbl 0075.28102)] from second to higher order.
