An age-structured population incorporating death is studied for optimal policies on harvesting. The objective is to optimise a discounted yield over an infinite horizon. The harvesting function is arbitrarily allowed to depend on age and time. It is shown that the optimal policy consists of harvesting at no more than three distinct ages.
