One paradigm in the field of a solid modeling is the CSG ( constructive solid geometry) approach to modeling objects: they are represented as unions or intersections of other CSG solids, until, in a tree traversal, the whole object is eventually made up from primitives such as spheres or blocks. If one allows primitives of different dimensionalities --- such as planes and lines --- one arrives at ``nonmanifold'' objects. This paper provides a detailed theoretical treatment of such objects, using constructive non-regularized trees.
