    The Lagrangian functional via direct methods of variational calculus is used for the approximate solutions of a linear dissipative oscillator. The author shows that remarkably better results are obtained with respect to his earlier work by increasing the number of parameters in the test functions. A comparative estimate of the accuracy obtained by three different methods is discussed.
