In connection with a result obtained by P. Halmos in finite-dimensional spaces, the authors show that for any linear, bounded, nilpotent operator \(A\) acting on some Banach space and any separable, closed, invariant subspace \(M\) of \(A\) there is an operator commuting with \(A\) and having range dense in \(M\).
