The authors construct a geometric model of symmetry breaking in which the constraint requiring the Higgs field to have values in a predetermined orbit replaces the Higgs potential. In this model the Higgs boson becomes redundant. The theory is gauge invariant and infinitesimally the gauge transformations exhaust the degrees of freedom of the Higgs field. The work does not explain the dynamical origin of the constraint used but suggests that the due explanation might come from future experiments.
