A bisection property of the kernel is used to provide an intuitive interpretation of the kernel for cooperative games with any coalition structure. The results presented extend the interpretation of the kernel obtained by \textit{M. Maschler, B. Peleg} and \textit{L. S. Shapley} [Math. Oper. Res. 4, 303-338 (1979; Zbl 0426.90097)] who had limited their analysis to the case of games with grand coalition.
