One of the basic difficulties when creating simulation models for ecological systems is the identification of their parameters. In fact, owing to the incompleteness of our knowledge about the fundamental biological laws, such models contain quite a few coefficients whose values are yet to be determined. It turns out that in multi-dimensional nonlinear dynamic systems an increase in the number of free parameters does not simplify the verification of a model, but, rather, complicates it. The fact is that the behavior of variables in dynamic systems is closely associated with the topological structure of critical surfaces in the parameter space. In this paper using as a basis the concept of natural selection a scheme is proposed to expand the structure of models for biological systems which describe at the same time the behavior of the variables and the parameters. The author insists that this improves the dynamic properties of the models and makes it possible to predict the microscopic evolutionary transformations in ecological systems.
