Earlier Kovalevskaya introduced the notion of jointly extremal partial derivatives. In the present paper the authors prove the theorem concerning the extremal character of two-dimensional surfaces which are set by smooth functions of two variables, while function quotient derivatives of the first order form jointly extremal diversities. The method of major and minor fields introduced by Sprindzhuk forms the basis of their research.
