Sufficient conditions on the coefficients for \(M\) to be in the limit- point case are found. Here \(M\) is a not necessarily symmetric (formally selfadjoint) ordinary differential expression. These conditions are found by applying known results to powers of the symmetric case \(M^ +M\), where \(M^ +\) is the adjoint expression. Examples are given to show that new criteria can be obtained in this way. In fact, some criteria can be improved by taking higher and higher powers.
