The authors introduce the range \(\psi\) as a new measure for the irregularities of distribution. The range \(\psi\) of \(P_ \tau\)-nets and of the initial segments of \(LP_ \tau\)-sequences is determined. Furthermore, the range \(\psi\) of pseudo-random number sequences is computed and conjectured to be about \(\sqrt N\).
