In this note, the author deals with finite difference schemes to simulate the trajectory of a Newtonian particle in a conservative field. The analysis of the schemes is made on the basis of three basic properties of the underlying continuous equation: Canonical character, time reversibility and the energy conservation. A procedure to construct the Hamiltonian associated to the given finite difference scheme is presented.
