The author determines a transitive fuzzy relation (of \(\sup-t\) type) best approximating a given fuzzy relation. A weaker concept of a pseudo- transitive fuzzy relation is introduced. It is shown how to obtain upper and lower pseudo-transitive approximations of a given fuzzy relation. Examples are given.
