The paper deals with the problem of the reconstruction of a signal after it has been corrupted by noise. This problem leads to the study of nonlinear smoothers and particular roots to a given noise-corrupted sequence. Simple equivalent smoothing operators are given that allocate a class of sequences that are roots of the median smoother and the allocation is well defined and well posed.
