Let \(N^ n\) denote the variety of \(n\)-dimensional complex nilpotent Lie algebras, which is known to be reducible for \(n\geq 11\) and \(n\leq 6\). The authors prove that \(N^ 7\) is composed of two algebraic components and that \(N^ 8\) is also reducible.
