The authors consider paired comparison experiments for which weights describing the reliability of the comparisons are available; such weights can be presented by belief functions as defined by \textit{G. Shafer} [A mathematical theory of evidence (1976; Zbl 0359.62002)]. The authors develop a belief function analysis and conditions for its validity.
