Necessary and sufficient conditions have been established for an infinite matrix \(A=(a_{nk})\) to transform \(bv\), the space of sequences of bounded variation into \(l(q)\), \(l_\infty(q)\), \(c_0(q)\) and \(c(q)\) which are the generalized sequence spaces of \textit{I. J. Maddox} [J. Math., Oxf. II. Ser. 18, 345--355 (1967; Zbl 0156.06602)].
