By using limit theorems of probability theory Szàsz operators are obtained as limits in an appropriate sense of Bernstein operators, Baskakov operators and operators of Bleimann, Butzer and Hahn respectively. In a similar way Gamma operators are obtained as limits of Baskakov operators. By using results about the rapidity of convergence to the Poisson distribution distribution rates of convergence are obtained for the first two of the above mentioned cases.
